The California Historical Society’s curatorial team believes this photo depicts María Manuela Valencia de Briones, who was granted Rancho Boca de la Cañada del Pinole after the death of her husband, Felipe. María Manuela would have been in her late sixties or early seventies at the time this photograph was taken.

WHY SO BIG?

The Brionean likes huge photos and loathes the tiny photos on Facebook. It seems that there is a 10-year lag time in photo sizes for web pages. To view web pages smaller on your desktop, ctrl-scroll zooms in and out. Don’t try to view The Brionean on a phone.
